Funding

1140 hours of Early Learning and Childcare

The Scottish Government introduced 1140 hours of Early Learning and Childcare in 2020. As part of this scheme Acorn Day Nursery was part of the trial before every child became eligible for these hours.

We are happy to offer these hours in our 3–5-year-old room although we are registered to offer funded hours to eligible under 3’s, however there are strict conditions to be met to be granted these hours. This takes place at a multi-agency panel discussion.

If you think you would be eligible for funded under 3’s hours, please contact your health visitor who can process an application on your behalf.

How does the 1140 hours work?

Before a child’s third birthday we issue a form to their parent or carer and ask them complete and return it to us.

Once we have the correct information, we apply to Fife Council to draw down your child’s funding. We work out how much this is per week and then minus it off your monthly invoice before you get your invoice for the remainder. We manage your funding over the whole year so that you end up with equal invoices as we are open for 51 weeks of the year.

It is up to you how many hours you use from one half a day per week right up to five days per week (subject to availability). We offer half day and full day sessions at Acorn Day Nursery.

It works out quite cost effective for parents and carers and we find when you hear how much your invoice will be after the funding is deducted, parents and carers often book additional sessions.

This is a great benefit to children as regular attendance at an Early Learning and Childcare setting gives children the best start in life.

For more information on funded early learning and childcare please contact the nursery and we will be happy to talk through all the options to you and help you find a pattern that suits your needs.
